I’m really about to be making 10 dollars an hour with a whole ass degree wow I’m pissed
From a good ass private school!!! NYU!!!!!! Wowowowow.
tbh degree ain’t worth shit. I’m an econ major so went to school and ended up studying specifically why the degree I was getting wasn’t worth shit
Yeah you gotta work your way up to pay grades that you low key deserved straight out
Why did you accept the offer if you thought the pay was too low?
Just a question. There’s nothing to accept yet. Also, desperation makes people accept less than they deserve all the time
Have you thought about graduate school?
Yes but I honestly can’t take the strain of more school rn.
Right now, in most fields they still aren’t hiring people with masters, and if you have a masters you’ve now become overqualified for most jobs and they won’t hire you because since you have a masters they’ll have to pay you more or they think you’ll be uppity because you’ll have a higher education than your boss or supervisor.
If you get a terminal degree in your field you can teach, but wait, if that’s a research field they’re going to want you to have post-doctoral work to show as well, and then maybe you can get an adjunct position. If you don’t have that post-doctoral work say hello to being an intern at research facility for who knows how long.
I work at job that starting pay is 12.50 an hour and I have multiple co-workers with doctorates making between that an 13 dollars an hour. People are not hiring the most recent crops of graduates at any level. The market is inundated with young workers and there are few jobs because baby boomers aren’t retiring (Many fear that since there are more of them enough of us won’t pay into social security, but we can’t pay into social security enough to support them if they don’t retire so we can move up).
The places that do have openings have latched onto the idea of “interns” either for college credit or no pay or stipend that doesn’t even cover rent. These internships by their very nature have limited who they can hire to people who already have disposable income or have parents wealthy enough to support them while they make nothing or are willing to try working an internship, while working two part-time jobs on the side in the hopes that they won’t have a complete breakdown in the middle of it.
It is a very tough job market right now, it is even tough for folks in the fields that were once thought to be guaranteed money makers, like young lawyers.
